The opening marked Appasionato, is reminiscent of the famous Adagio movement of the Concierto de Aranjuez by Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo. It makes use of varying degrees of embellishment, which increases as the section progresses. The work continues to build to an intensity as the virtuosic solo lines bring the piece to a rousing conclusion.
