This piece cleverly combines the Brahms Lullaby and Rock-a-bye-Baby with popular lullaby-type Christmas Carols, "Away in a Manger" and "O Holy Night." Beginning with pizzicato strings emulating the sound of a music box, the piece moves through a variety of colors and textures that builds to a dramatic climax before a return to the quiet music box to complete the work. A subtle and musical choice for holiday concerts.
