Composed by Michael Bomier. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. Score. 2 pages. Michael Butkus-Bomier #2032031. Published by Michael Butkus-Bomier (A0.862502).

This first example of the three inventions from the set derived from the parent scale of C, and thus, containing NO black keys, sharps OR flats, has a subject and counter subject, as most inventions do. It also has a consistent harmony part to the second half of the subject, a rather different feature than most inventions, which usually have the countersubject as the counterpoint to the subject. This aspect gives it a bit of the feel of a three-part invention or a Sinfornia, as they were called in Bach's time. A series of three intervals a fourth apart, and the harmonized scale that follows, in the opposite direction ,of course, comprises the subject. Two groups of three notes, each played twice, is the true countersubject. The piece is in 6/4 time, and has the division of two sets of three quarter-notes, rather than three groups of two. The two elements, one harmonized, and one not, trade places, and blend as the piece proceeds. Being a white-key piece, the fingering is less about where to put one's thumb than where to make the shift in position. Audio clip is at the recommended tempo. MBB.
