This chart is perfect for the big band bassist who rarely takes solos. A simple 12-bar blues in F major, the tune requires neither proof that one is Superman or Superwoman, but merely an ability to improvise on the blues. Along with bits of interesting ensemble work, your bassist gets to blow on some straight-out blues changes, walk some behind a trombone solo, and make the final statement of the melody with a tag and a slowed down ending. King Character comes close to being medium difficult, and gets your bassist who rarely solos in & out of the way in a very few minutes. Be sure to remind your bass-picker not to take the written promptings throughout the chart personally; they were meant for Earl May.
