The three Gnossiennes were composed by Erik Satie around 1890. They were first published in 1893 in Le Figaro musical and Le Cœur.

Éric Alfred Leslie Satie (1866-1925) was a french composer and pianist. He was a colourful figure in the early 20th century avant-garde movement in Paris. Satie referred to himself as a "phonometrician" (meaning "someone who measures sounds") rather than as a musician.
