This composition started out as an arrangement of "Satin Doll" in 3/4 time but quickly took a different turn. I have a penchant for taking a standard tune and putting my own "twist" on it. They say a jazz musician never plays a song the same way ONCE!. That is certainly the case here. The composition begins with the tenor playing the lead voice, which is a departure from standard sax quartet voicing. I believe this gives it a Woody Herman "Four Brothers" type sound.
